FAQ – Choosing A Technician

| FAQ | January 10, 2011

Who can work on your Rotax powered Aircraft?
As stated in the Maintenance Manual in section 1.2  under Authorized Personnel:
“It is a requirement that all organizations or individuals possess the required special tooling, training or experience to perform all tasks out-lined.”

It also specifically calls out the need to Type Specific training:
“Type-specific training (for the applicable ROTAX aircraft engine) which is approved by the national aviation authority and/or BRP-Powertrain.”

independent Service Centres:

This is the premiere level of support for Rotax aircraft engine owners.
The independent Service Centres or iSC for short, are your dedicated regional sales, service, support, RFSC training and spare parts providers.  An iSC has to meet many requirements in order to support owners. They are located on a paved airfield. They carry the full line of Rotax aircraft engines.  They also have a large quantity of spare parts on hand.  They have an RFSC approved training centre. Their technicians have current RFSC iRMT training and all the Rotax tooling.  In short, iSC’s have the specialized facility, equipment and staff needed to keep your Rotax engine in top shape.

There are currently 3 iSC’s in the United States and another 4 in Central and South America.

independent Repair Centres:

In order to bring Rotax service closer to the customer, each iSC has a network of independent Repair Centres (iRC).  The iRC must also meet certain requirements in order to be approved by the iSC.  They are on a airfield that is suitable for the type of aircraft they are servicing.  An iRC has technicians that have a current RFSC iRMT rating.  They have tooling and parts on hand to meet the needs of their customers.

independent Rotax Maintenance Technicians:

These are the frontline mobile support technicians.  They hold current RFSC iRMT training and have knowledge of Rotax aircraft engines.  Depending on their rating, they can perform your service, line or heavy maintenance.  These are the technicians you will most likely see at your local air field and you probably know a few of them already.

So what do all these folk have in common?  Each one of the above, have an RFSC iRMT rating and are there to support Rotax aircraft engine owners.  For a list of all current RFSC iRMT’s go to www.rotaxiRMT.com If you would like to take some training on your engine or are thinking about a career in the industry, contact your local iSC or go to www.RotaxFlyingClub.com
